Maria-Theresia Mathisen (formerly Pongracz) was born in Vienna, Austria where she grew up with the revered Austrian artist Ernst Fuchs who was then managed by her mother. Her early career intertwined art and fashion; moving to New York City in 2005 to work at the Austrian Cultural Forum and later at Vogue and Gagosian Gallery. She studied at the New School in NYC and started her career at Marianne Boesky Gallery.

In 2013 MT moved back to Europe where she organised the exhibition “Yoko Ono – Interventions” at the Ernst Fuchs Museum in Vienna. She settled down in London where she worked for the former Hus Gallery and later at Marlborough Contemporary, ARTUNER and with Simon de Pury. MT's experience includes VIP relations for art fairs (Frieze, artgenève/artmonte-carlo) and writing for international publications.

In 2018 MT founded the Castel Caramel artist residency in the South of France where she has hosted artists such as Chloe Wise, Korakrit Arunanondchai and Ben Wolf Noam, Jon Rafman, Jill Mulleady and others.
