Maria-Theresia Mathisen
Maria-Theresia Mathisen is a London-based art consultant who founded MTM Art Advisory in 2018 following more than a decade of experience in the global art market.
Originally from Vienna, Austria, she was exposed to the arts from an early age, growing up with the renowned artist Ernst Fuchs. This formative experience provided her with a rare, multi-faceted understanding of the art world — from artist studios to major institutional exhibitions, as well as direct engagement with leading international collectors.
Living in New York City, Mathisen gained professional experience at the Austrian Cultural Forum NY, US Vogue, Gagosian and Marianne Boesky Gallery. She subsequently held senior positions in London at Marlborough and ARTUNER.
Throughout her career, she has collaborated with prominent industry figures and has led VIP Relations initiatives for various art fairs. Her multidisciplinary background enables her to offer clients a sophisticated perspective on market dynamics, institutional strategy, and both primary and secondary market structures.
In 2018, Mathisen founded the Castel Caramel artist residency in the South of France — a platform dedicated to artistic production and critical dialogue. The residency has hosted a distinguished generation of contemporary artists, including Chloe Wise, Korakrit Arunanondchai, Jill Mulleady, and Stefanie Heinze, among others. She has collaborated with leading international galleries such as Almine Rech, Pilar Corrias and Pace Gallery.
